Covenant Community Care Emphasizes Importance of Managing Health During Winter Months

Covenant Community Care, one of 39 federally-qualified Michigan health centers servicing 20,000 metro Detroit residents, is emphasizing the importance of managing your health and seeking necessary medical care during the colder months when Michigan begins to observe upticks in seasonal illnesses.
Covenant Community Care, with three clinics located across Detroit, provides integrated health care services, including primary care, to under-insured or uninsured patients across southeast Michigan, regardless of someone’s ability to pay, so that everyone can stay safe and healthy.
During the winter, it’s even more important that residents are aware of the medical resources available to them as cases of influenza, the common cold, and other respiratory viruses rise with people spending more time indoors, traveling, and gathering for the holidays.
Most Covenant Community Care patients without health insurance pay between $20 and $50 per visit, depending on family size and income. The cost of the visit cover:
- Visit with primary care physician
- Blood draw and lab work
- Vaccines
- Behavioral health services
- Diabetes and other health care issue education

In addition to seeing a primary care physician and getting vaccinated, the following strategies can reduce your risk of and help protect others against catching respiratory viruses:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick and keep your distance from others when you are sick.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
- Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs can be spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.
- Take steps for cleaner air. You can improve air quality by bringing in fresh outside air, purifying indoor air or gathering outdoors.
- Cleaning frequently touched surfaces, such as countertops, handrails and doorknobs regularly can help prevent the spread of some illnesses.
- Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food to keep your body and immune system healthy.
