Covenant Community Care is proud to announce the opening of its newest location on Detroit's east side. In anticipation of a permanent facility opening in early 2013, medical care is currently available in a mobile clinic on the site of the future building.
The new health center, located on Moross Road just east of I-94, is being developed in partnership with Grace Community Church and St. John Providence Health System. When complete, this new facility is expected to provide medical and dental care to more than 8,000 east side residents. It will include nine medical exam rooms, six dental chairs, meeting spaces, and room for a benefits counselor.
But Covenant is already on the scene, treating children from the neighborhood on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Nurse Practitioner Cathy Wenz provides physicals and well child visits in addition to treating children who are sick or injured. Our mobile clinic is equipped to perform the diagnostic tests children most commonly need, and we are always able to schedule patients at other Covenant locations if a procedure is not currently offered. Transportation is available upon request.
In keeping with Covenant's commitment to the community, our first day at Grace provided an opportunity to serve. Eight months pregnant, one east side resident was begging for help just a few feet away from our mobile clinic. Covenant chaplain Matt Fleming brought this patient to the attention of medical director Dr. Lydia Best, who was able to schedule an appointment with an obstetrician at Covenant's Royal Oak clinic the very next day. The patient was moved to tears as staff surrounded her in prayer, vowing to provide the much-needed medical care she had long been unable to access. All of us at Covenant welcome the addition of two new patients very soon.
